Monthly Musings

Monthly Musings – September 2015

It’s been a funny old month. Employment changes. Competition. Training. Random cardio fun with friends again. Lots to cover in this monthly musings.

Anyone else any good monthly achievements they want to share?

Good – New Challenges

Two-thirds of the way through the month, I started a remote contract after choosing to explore new challenges. The change has been good so far, and I’m already learning new things (can’t ask for more than that). Making the step from a permanent office based employee to a home-based remote worker across several time zones was a scary move, but one that needed doing. And I’ve gone from an employee to a contractor. But you have to take those chances sometimes!

On a related note, as it stands I’ll need a new contract in the new year. So if anyone needs some mobile apps developing or wants a mobile app contractor (ideally remote working), then please do get in touch. However do be realistic as to the time and cost involved in producing a quality native mobile app. It’s not a few quid and a bag of sweets. You will find people cheaper. You will not end up with a durable app, structured well, with maintainable code, that anyone else will want to help you support *gets off soap box*.

I also took a break from hard training for a week which felt good. I mixed in some complete rest days with more cardio based activities and let everything recover a bit. I’m now back on a new strength plan with fewer kettlebells (in the short term) so that I can play with going heavier for a few weeks 🙂

I’ve had some great times with the 20kg bell too – but I’ll cover those in CMS specific update.

Bad – Nada

Yay!

Meh – Content… Or Lack Thereof! Sorry…

So there has been a lack of new content over the last couple of weeks. It is not a lack of things to write about (a local competition and a training day both deserve posts of their own) but because I’ve been flat out with life. Or more precisely with the change in my employment status.

Hand over at the old job, leaving meals, one too many drinks (oops), and then getting to grips with the new projects I’ll be working on for the rest of this year. All great things in their own right. But it has meant I’ve slipped up here a bit. And it’s quite mentally tiring learning someone else’s code base, so I’ve pretty much left the MacBook alone after clock off time. Sorry! Note to self: must try harder.
