I’ve had something of a disappointing day. The sort of day where in the past I’d resort to alcohol. Or food that was not really beneficial to my health or training. Or both; let’s be honest here 😉 On the whole, I’ve not done that in the last year or so, but I do have to fight the temptation each time.
However, after walking round Tesco and only coming out with salad, reduced price zero energy drinks, and some bread (not the things I perhaps considered buying when I went into the store) I resolved to not let these external factors get in the way of my personal goals.
I did allow myself half an hour playing silly iPad games when I first got in (after herding the cats; yes it is a thing; yes I am an expert!) to distract myself. But then I forced myself to do my planned Long Cycle training. And what do you know? Not only did I feel the technique tweaks on the swing were a bit more effortless, but I maintained the rep pace I wanted. As I’ve been focusing on these tweaks I’ve found my rpm has dropped. Probably because it’s less automatic, as the sets are within the duration I have done better reps/minute before. Additionally, despite a short set yesterday when my forearms were sore, they felt OK today. When I say OK, I mean minor rather than major bruising 😉
A real demonstratable case of JFDI: Just F*cking Do It!
I’ve always said that training gives me headspace. This has yet again proved it. And I then put in a set I was very happy with. I feel an awful lot better than a few hours ago 🙂
