Why Deskbound Girevik?

It took me a long while to think of a name for the blog. Then I needed to ensure the domain was available. Yes I am a geek ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m quite pleased with what I eventually arrived at as it sums me up quite well.

The name arose from two things; my day job (where my marketable skills seem to lie), and my main fitness hobby. I mean I love deadlifting. And my current aim (having got to 1.5x body weight) is 2x body weight. But I don’t want to compete in an advanced mankini ๐Ÿ˜‰ It turns out that I find competing in kettlebells a challenge. But one that motivates me more than entering running races. I love being able to make use of strength skills as well as endurance. It also arose because it seems many who compete in Kettlebells in the UK are involved in the fitness industry in some way or another, so being desk-bound is a differentiator.

I have to fit my training around paid employment, and my home life with hubby and furries. None of which I want to lose. It would be nice to have more hours in the day though ๐Ÿ™‚ It does make it a bit of a struggle at times to fit training sessions in around everything else. I also have a finite number of days off work a year. Travelling to competitions where weigh in is a day before plus the usual holidays and family reasons for needing days off means I seem to run out pretty quick ๐Ÿ™

Clearly I need to win the lottery ๐Ÿ™‚

That said I’m not complaining about any of it. I love what I do and my home life. I enjoy my hobbies. And I certainly have no desire to get into instructing as many seem to do. Learning is my thing, not teaching.
